Kathy Chartier became the first time full employee of Members Credit Union (MCU), formerly Greenwich CT Teachers Federal Credit Union, when she took the position of manager in 1987. The credit union has grown to be a full service $29M community development credit union, serving not only teachers but the underserved in Fairfield County. Through Kathy’s leadership, MCU has become a Juntos Avanzamos credit union and received Low Income Designation. All staff are Certified Credit Union Financial Counselors. MCU is helping immigrants to improve their financial position in life, with more than half of new members being Hispanic immigrants. MCU won the 2018 CU Times Trail Blazer Award for Outstanding Service to the Underserved and Kathy received a 2018 Credit Union Hero Achievement Award.

Kathy has been involved in the Credit Union League of CT for most of her career, serving on the board for 20+ years, 7 as chair. She is currently on the board of CT credit union’s foundation, Credit Unions Building Financial Independence, and president of the Stamford Chapter of the league. She was instrumental in starting the partnership between the CT League and the Cooperative Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago, bringing Real Solutions to Connecticut and beginning Connecticut’s award winning financial reality fairs that have reached almost 30,000 high school students.
