Joan Farrell joined CoVantage Credit Union as Senior Vice President, Chief Risk Officer in January 2019. Headquartered in Antigo, Wisconsin (population 7,800), and serving many rural and economically challenged communities, CoVantage has grown to be the eighth largest credit union in Wisconsin, 154th largest nationally, serving 113,000 members primarily in north central Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. CoVantage has grown by staying true to its mission of welcoming all regardless of wealth, providing outstanding value and exceptional service and working with members experiencing financial challenge -all while remaining financially strong. CoVantage is a designated Low Income Credit Union and Community Development Financial Institution.
As Chief Risk Officer, Joan also acts as in-house legal counsel, responsible for maintaining risk policies and controls that protect the credit union and its members. She has extensive experience in board governance, compliance, regulations/laws, marketing and fund raising events. Prior to joining CoVantage, Joan was General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago.
As an attorney in private practice for 20+ years, Joan has also had the privilege of representing small businesses and local non-profit organizations with their legal and business needs. Joan serves on the board of CoVantage Cares Foundation, and is a director of several other community and professional organizations. Joan is proud recipient of the Top Corporate Counsel - Community Champion Award, from the Milwaukee Business Journal and the Top Women in the Law Award, by the Wisconsin Law Journal.
