Expanding Your Service to the Hispanic Community as a CDFI Credit Union

March 25, 2021 | 2:00 pm ET

Inclusiv, in collaboration with Coopera Consulting and Border Federal Credit Union, invite you to join us on for our first Juntos Avanzamos Webinar of 2021: Expanding Your Service to the Hispanic Community as a CDFI Credit Union.

We extend a special invitation to credit unions that have the NCUA MDI designation, and those that serve the Hispanic community and are interested in CDFI certification eligibility. The webinar is free of charge and open to all credit unions.

In December 2020, Congress approved a landmark $600 billion in COVID Relief legislation that included $12 billion in funding for Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and Minority Designated Institutions (MDIs), ensuring resources will be directed to some of the communities hardest hit by the pandemic.

The $12 billion directed to CDFIs and MDIs consists of:

  • $3 billion in emergency support through the CDFI Fund to provide grants and other financial and technical assistance in the form of $1.25 billion in Immediate Support for the current fiscal year, and $1.75 billion - available until it is expended - for supporting Minority Lending Institutions
  • $9 billion Emergency Capital Investment Program administered by the Department of Treasury to provide low-cost, long-term capital investments to MDIs and CDFI depositories

There are several criteria that are taken into consideration when evaluating CDFI certification elegibility. One of them is lending and providing affordable and relevant financial services for minority populations, including the Hispanic community. By becoming CDFI certified, your credit union will be eligible to apply for grants and other resources to expand your community impact.
