Guides will talk abut neighborhoods and highlights along the route. Tickets are $15 and seats will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact Sandra Gomez at sgomez@inclusiv.org to reserve your seat.
Tour Route:
Leave from MGM Grand, take M-10 north to Hamilton/Chicago Exit for a short detour that will take us past some of the beautiful mansions in the Boston/Edison District of Detroit - one of several affluent enclaves. The corner of Boston & Hamilton is the house where Berry Gordy, founder of the Motown record label, lived during Motown’s heyday.
Right on Hamilton, up two blocks and right on Collingwood for two blocks for a ride through Detroit & Highland Park neighborhoods that are less affluent & more typical.
Follow Second to Manchester where we will turn left (north) and continue to the CACU branch in the “Shops at Woodward Place” center.
Unload bus for a site visit to CACU branch. Return to bus.
Turn west on Bartlett, and around the block on the north side to drive east on Midland. Pause to discuss redevelopment and point out houses CACU has financed. Continue to Woodward pausing occasionally to point out city highlights and developments, such as Wayne State University, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Fox Theater, Stadiums for Tigers & Lions and several new and emerging businesses, including Dan Gilbert’s projects.
Travel around the circle at Campus Martius, pausing once again. Continue West on Michigan back to MGM Grand Hotel.
