Financial Counseling in Credit Unions: A Survey of the Field

As part of the research and development of Pathways to Financial Empowerment, the Federation of and Neighborhood Trust Financial Partners surveyed credit unions in the fall of 2014 to gain a deeper understanding of how they approach financial counseling. The survey findings affirm that many credit unions have substantial financial counseling programs, but often do not systematically track or quantify the impact of the financial counseling they deliver. Pathways to Financial Empowerment aims to provide credit unions with the tools to formalize their counseling programs and to measure counseling's impact on the financial health of their members.
